On the edge of two peaceful villages, with active communities, the house has been built in an elevated position on its basement in order to offer the best views of the mountains from its Southern terrace, and of the surrounding bucolic countryside from the Northern terrace. The gardens (5,400m?) are accessed via a private road and are fully enclosed and private, and separated into an orchard area to the west, parking to the left of the electric gates, flower beds close to the house, a vegetable garden accessible from the kitchen, the rest being laid to grass, with various trees and shrubs. From the Southern terrace you can admire the stunning sight of about 200km of mountains, with the Pic de Midi in the centre; from the Northern terrace the scenery is more bucolic, of surrounding farmland and the roofs of the nearby village. The entire house has been built with great style, a wealth of large exposed beams and woodwork giving character and warmth. The many different levels are intriguing, and also add to the cachet of the property. The house was built in 1979, and is of traditional and sound construction, the walls are rendered 270mm breezeblock and brick with glass wool insulation between, the roof is tiled and the roof space double insulated, heating is largely provided by the main insert, with some support from electric convectors. Drainage is provided by a septic tank and two grease tanks. The property is just 5 minutes from the nearest ecole maternelle and primary school, with very active committees. ADSL is available. It is well placed for communications, just 10 minutes from Vic en Bigorre and from Rabastens de Bigorre, 12km from Tarbes and the motorway, a golf course and the station (TGV), 35 mins from Tarbes/Lourdes airport (Paris), 45 mins from Pau (Ryanair), 1hr 30mins from Spain, and from the lower ski slopes, 1hr 30mins from Toulouse (Easyjet, Flybe, BMIBaby, Aer Lingus), 1hr 40mins from Biarritz and the Atlantic beach resorts and 3hrs from the Mediterranean.
